Dear VSP, 1. Thane-Panvel locals are running for almost 1 year. Two pairs used to run, I do not know the current number. 2. The map is not to scale. Road distance between Khopoli and Rasayani would be more than 25 KM. Why would you like to link the two?

Karan/Binai,

1. Is the line from Juinagar to Turbhe Juinagar "functional"? If so, are trains being operated, say, between Panvel and Thane?
2. Is there any feasibility to connect Khopoli with Rasayani? If not, is there any hilly terrain in between?

Perhaps Kandivali would get a new code now :)
By the way, Kile (Its called locally as Kille - the place where I resided during my last 5 years in Mumbai) station is called as "Sagar Sangam" by CIDCO. Am glad that the railways is naming the place after its actual name and not the improvised one from CIDCO.

Interestingly, the Seawoods-Uran line is to have a station called KILE which happens to be the station code for Kandivali!

Proposed DD-MMR line

It will be easier to have another branch frombehind Patus Sleeper factory joining after the Daund U turn, and to have a smaller second station at Daund for local residents. This can be only two platforms without loops. With future doubling of DD-MMR in mind, the junction can have double line which currently merge near the Bhima Bridge.
Any way after the U turn the train passes behind Daund station and distance is not large.

If Shantanus suggested alignment is to be used construction of a second bridge on Bhima will be needed, and Kasti station will also have to be upgraded as it will have to control a junction, with all trains using one direction except Karnatak Express and one or two weeklie trains.

Vijay, here it is on wikimapia : http://www.wikimapia.org/#lat=18.4697384&lon=74.566226&z=15&l=0&m=s&v=9 and here is the part shown in blue at the Solapur end of the station http://www.wikimapia.org/#lat=18.4623198&lon=74.5943892&z=17&l=0&m=s&v=9 I do not know when and why the alignments were changed.

Proposed DD-MMR line

Vey nice representation. I really feel, this must be taken by rlys on immediate basis. This would save off a lot of time spent in reversals. But I didn't understand about the old - black line & green line. Are there 2 branches from DD towards Manmad? I remember seeing only 1 branch, on the right side, wehn going towards Pune side.

Unscheduled halts at Udhna and Makarpura/Vishvamitri? Probably platform shortage at both major stations!

Giri, that was a long crawl and an unscheduled halt.
