I think the chain is for the manual hand brake. The chain leads into the cab, as you can see. Confirmation is needed.

I have a picture of the WAP-4 in the background that you mention. I'll post it later today, so you can judge the colour better.

This snap entices me to another MG trip, this time in the north.

This sign is for an unmaned level cross to the track that seperates to the right from the main track that is to the left. This track goes to the coach reconditioning yard

Nice snap. Looks good. By the way, that is a strange livery for a WAP on the extreme right. Is it red, brown, orange or burnt red?

i agree with shanx also note the unique livery f WAM 4 of BIA shed..after it went to SECR it got rid of its typical TATA shed livery... i spotted it first on cstm-hwh mail v ngp last year on 4th may 03 on my way to cal.. also it seems that the loco is txfered from TATA as it bears HUMNOID logo....

This looks more the Puri - HNZM Hirakud Express. U can faintly make out the ECo markings for East Coast Railway and the Bhillai WAM4 is a dead giveaway. The Agra passenger on the other hand is a Air Brake rake and gets an ET WAM4 or sometimes a GZB WAM4.

This pic seems to be taken from NH1 which runs parallel to the track near Kosi Kalan.
