Frankly, it does not appear ugly to me.....a lot has been said about its triangular (or pentagonal?) end, but to me it looks quite attractive & different from the boring boxy lines of WDMs.

Right ! no loco can ever be termed as an "ugly duckling" It would have been a dream come true had this loco been rated at 5000 BHP.

this is by far the best diesel power in IR till date no alco i have been in beats the DP4 in control smoothness or efficiency or power do not count the dual locos please.

so please dont insult it by calling it a Ugly duckling it is IR's Future work horse i can see it now .

sorry ..MAWDs where not left in INDIA by the british..it was left in india by the USATC...i.e United states of america transport corporation ..or something like that ..and that light arrengement on the meddel is soooo typical american 'mountain'type headlight placement..

The dome is because of the AC vent and not due to the compressor. The compressor comes at the ends in an enclosure called RMPU(roof mounted Packaged Unit).

There is no Bilaspur-Durg Intercity express on the route. Being electrified it runs with Bhilai shed WAM engine. The photo shown may be perhaps the Korba-VSKP Link Express or some passenger (VSKP-DURG/ R-VSKP Passenger). The photo is taken on R-TIG Branch line.
