Canadian Locomotive Company, Kingston, Ontario, Canada - The first of 145 Canadian-built war department locomotives that will be sent to India to haul allied supplies across 1600 miles of India Railways to our fighting lines in Burma, steams out of a Kingston plant, ready for duty. This locomotive, a CWD class 2-8-2 was originally numbered C1 then 5001 and eventually became 12223 and worked for Eastern Railway. Overall 584 locomotives of this class were built in Canada between 1943-9. USA supplied 225 locomotive of similar AWD class in 1944-5.
