In fact, this photo was taken shortly after doubling of the PGT - ERS section. In the initial days after doubling, as you can see in this photo, north bound express trains used to stop at Platform #1. Later, this practice was stopped and this had led to much resentment amongst the traveling public.

I zoomed up the high res image and the coupler reads "Schaku" which is most likely the name of the German manufacturer. All I know about a Scharfenberg coupler is that it helps in automatic coupling.

Yes, there are instruction and announcements both in Hindi and English - on the stations as well in the trains.
