Gomti and Vikramshila were the first two non-Rajdhani trains to have non-stop runs between Delhi and Kanpur. Within a year, Vikramshila acquired halts at Aligarh and Tundla. Around this time, the Sonbhadra Exp. was introduced between New Delhi and Patna. So, for a while, Jayanti Janata / Sonbhadra / Vikramshila used to share slots in the NDLS-ALD and MGS-PNBE sections. I remember during by 2007 visit to LKU, a power outage completely severed the signals at LKU station. Since there was no train from 1-4pm, the SM decided to leave the signals defunct until 3:30 after which the guys at the stn coolly switched on the genset at the stn and the signals came back to life to receive the next train.
