Thanks Jitendra Sir & Akshay for the revised layout explanation on Virar. The same has been updated & re-uploaded.

Moderators: Kindly delete the old layout.

Vijay, what Akshay is saying is right. The track layout at Virar has changed in the last year. The DC tracks end in a dead end. The 3rd & 4th AC lines continue as the mainline towards Vaitarna with loops for PF5 (no Neutral zone here). Also the MEMU lines end in a dead end to the north of the DC dead end (station building in between).

Great diagram.

Any idea by when the Pune - Karjat - Vangani section would be converted? There was an article in Dec 08 that the conversion work in this section is almost complete.

The SSPs and substations have already been installed in this section.

Akshay, I remeber, there were 2 DC lines ending at Virar for EMUs & 2 AC lines starting from Virar for MEMUs. But what about the main lines which continued beyond & had a neutral zone alongwith the newly constructed 3rd-4th lines? I have tried to refer to them only in my pix. As of today, I think, there are 4 lines which must be passing through Virar- 2 being the old ones & 2 being the new ones apart from loop lines if any.

Vijay, at Virar the old DC lines DO NOT merge with the new lines. They hit a dead end at Virar.

Thanks everybody. Please find the replies:
1. KYN ELS: At the gate of this ELS where a single line enters ELS, A very big board on the OHE right above the line reads "AC Territory ends, DC Territory starts". I couldn't capture it on my cell due to presence of RPFs Hence ELS gets isolated & is under DC traction. However inside ELS, there are seperate AC & DC lines to test the AC / DC / ACDC locos.

2 things CR could have done further: Convert entire ELS into AC as also Diva Jn PF 3,4,5 & loop lines & place neutral zones just before entering Diva Jn from CST side. By this CR could have started Diva-Vasai/Panvel MEMU services. Inside ELS as of now, both DC & AC locos have to be towed dead into ELS which isn't making sense at all. On the conversion day we spotted 3 WCG2 dead near ELS gate perhaps to be towed & places onto the DC lines.

2. Virar: I guess, the older DC lines have nautral zones before they merge onto the new 3rd & 4th lines. Previously the older lines used to be...

2. Virar: I guess, the older DC lines have nautral zones before they merge onto the new 3rd & 4th lines. Previously the older lines used to be straight lines with 3rd-4th lines emerging out of them but WR re-aligned them to make the 3rd-4th lines straight. Pls correct me if my understanding is wrong.

3. Diva/Kalyan - Vasai: After Kopar stn facing towards CST, a pair of lines branch out from 5th-6th lines and go to Vasai, and at the same time, a pair also branches from 5th-6th lines from Diva side & both pairs merge and go to Vasai, hence no need for ay reversals for traffic coming from either ways. Same is the case for PNVL bound lines. Neutral zones is on the Diva-PNVL pair as well as on 5th-6th lines immediately after Diva Jn outer as shown in the pix.

4. In all if we see, we have 7 neutral ones on CR & 2 on WR isolating the DC & AC tractions at various locations.

Shimla Rly Stn Inside the Shivalik Deluxe Express

If backrest can be moved to face the forward direction that's a great boon! I personally hate sitting in the reverse direction (my back facin the loco)
