Lovely pics. Reminded me of the time some seven years back when I did the same journey, rather Indore-Kalakund-Indore with my brother. And we did the roof-top travel on the return journey. This after undertaking a short trekking trip at Kalakund while waiting for our return train. The talk with the Assit SM revealed that Kalakund was a major goods yard and had a steam engine shed where the locos for banking duties used to be stabled.
It was always bustling with freight related activities in the steam era and that the yard had four loops to hold the goods trains. Sadly with the other routes becoming more convenient this route was left in disuse and slowly rotted.
Now only two lines remain at Kalakund.
The old steam shed is still there though it has been walled up and now supports the water tank.

Do you see the nice pattern? Two standard blue coaches, one CR type coach; then another two blue standard coaches, etc. Don't know if they did this intentionally, but it looks nice.

I liked this pic very much. The distant skyline of Pune and the hills in the foreground add a very nice and different effect.

What a terrific loco. Will it haul? :-) Initially i thought its a scrap. Which shed does it belong?

The forgotten railways of Pune’s backyard - part II

Great work - Appu,Ashish, John and PVS. Its easy sitting at home and enjoying this set of fantastic pictures, but one can only imagine the great risks taken by you all for this set of unbelievably rare pictures and the ones earlier including the ones on the Bhor ghat. Superb effort, and thanks for sharing these gems with us!
