Considering the curve, the inner surface of the outer rail should be polished. Also, in a straight line track, if the track is laid well, only a small band at the top of the rail will be polished (showing that there is no lateral swaying of the bogie when the train is moving).

Some more width in horizontal direction would have helped (golden ratio of 4:3). Right now the WDM is "suffocating" otherwise impressive image. Rails appear rusted, head surface not gleaming - is it a lesser used road?

There are parts of picture which are out of focus. The front of the loco and the part of foreground are in focus but the rest got a bit blurred. This could be a case of aperture size being larger than usual which causes the subject, in this case the front of train, to be in focus, and everything else out of focus. The depth of defocus depending upon the size of aperture.
