This zig-zag pattern is welded on the rail head of the crossover of a very small loop line near the electric loco trip shed in Bhusaval yard.What could be its purpose?

Zig zag welding reduces the area and increases the pressure of contact. This helps in better electrical contact to trip the track circuit.
