Note the American style (?) single lamp signal in front of the locomotive. Never seen this before, any idea of the function and current status of this signal?

Could this be an example of the early colour light signals introduced? It is a two aspect signal though.

The first two visible numbers `77**' on the cabside would indicate that it a HPS class locomotive. But then Central Railway never had any HPS locomotives and all HPS engines starting with 77 were with Northern Railway. It could be a recent transfer. It can also be an XA class 4-6-2 locomotive of the IRS class as some were based at Agra for short haul passenger train. Lastly it could be H/2 class 2-8-0 locomotive that were used on both passenger and goods trains. Sorry but there are no indicators from this angle that would make this locomotive stand apart.
