After a the railfanning gets into you, the railfan gets to understand the speed just as a doctor checks the pulse rate without looking in the watch......

Deepak:- I have seen this train at 120 kmph as well. One can easily make out the difference between the speed of that time (when at 120 kmph) and this time (when at 100 kmph).Hence i said its about 100 kmph.
Ankit:-this is the same location from which i took my BCT Raj video at 120 kmph. This is about 250 metres away fromm the TKD LC.Just in front of the road going in front of Apollo Hospital.

1969 hwh rajdhani express achieved 120 kmph...but in year 2009 all rajdhani does not exceed 140 kmph...so in very long journey there is no increments in speed....

INCREMENTS!!!! Deepak, how can our dear Rajdhanis travel at 140 Kmph???The number of Manned & Unmanned LCs,Cattle,Rail Rokos,Careless jaywalkers etc , make it difficult for these trains to achieve this speed especially for cult trains like the Legendary Howrah Rajdhani Express.FOG is another major factor for these trains in winters as they are of Northern Routes.

In terms of Achieveing,From IRFCA Mailing List someone has experienced Patna Rajdhani which has MPS of 130 kmph achieving 142 kmph speed.Don't know how he calculated speed but its possible to take out the speed of a train.Raj's achieve speed irrespective of their Maximum Permissible Speed.
