Are the high capacity coaches wider than their standard counterparts, as the picture implies?

Don't think there is much difference in the capacities of the vans. The first coach is an ICF/RCF make while the second is a BEML make coach. Hence the change in appearence.

Well, the body isn't wider. It is standard ICF size. The carrying capacity was increased by reinforcing the coach insides. Something as big as an ICF coach should ordinarily be able to carry much more. But I suppose the bogie and the frame have their limitations.
