The WDS6 locos, have a standard lievry, irrespective of their sheds, like other loco sheds...Eg, Erode has its own unique livery etc. Kalyan shed WDS6s also have a similar livery, however, a handful of them have been painted in a new maroon livery.

Are there any Y class or Z class shunters in India? Guess you do not need a W Unigauge system or not.

Since the WDSs invariably have railway men ride the catwalk, getting in and out of the loco while shunting, I guess the extra railing helps them. Provides them more secure poles to hold on to. Re: Apu's thought - is it a prelude to how IR will designate locos in the future ? – since the W will be redundant with project uni-gauge.

The classification is not partly painted, but has faded due to some greasy substance on it. I agree with Apurva that many shunters have additional railings. I have seen them at the Vizag port with these railings.

The support railings are found on many WDS 6s - I wonder why the loco classification WDS 6 is partially painted over.

Additional support railings on this loco. I wonder if this is one off or they are doing them to all shunters. Is a good sign.

Yes, I think it is the first picture that shows MUed WDS-6. MUed WDS-6 are quite rare and I was fortunate enough to be at the right place at the right time.

I think this is the first photo in the database which has two Shunters MUed. Is this very common in VSKP??

Sole engines , especially the shunters make a nice subject to shoot. Loved the pic.
