This is the only British owned private (Killick Nixon & Co.) railway line in India. Indian Railways has a contract to operate it on a 60 : 40 profit sharing basis, but the line is running into heavy losses. Most of the towns and villages en route lie in rich cotton growing areas, but have very poor transport connectivity. If the line does close down, it will be the end of one of the last remnants of the British Raj in India. The local politicians say they will fight for their train. This is now a one train only system, so no signals anymore. There is just a paper authority issued from terminal station for the entire stretch. However, it had Semaphore signalling earlier whose remnants could be seen on the line.
