Wish all IR locos are clean shaven like this one without a grill for the windshield!

Hope that railways do not officially change the name of Golden Roack to Ponmalai. BTW, Golden Rock is the english translation and name for Ponmalai

Congratulations Harsh, you are correct. It is Mysore I&S and the loco a 2' gauge 2-8-2, Kitson built in 1922.I don't think they ran a public passenger service.

I should rather say this is an Ex IR ES class loco, during the time this picure was shot. Looks like it is handling a mixed passenger. Private railways operated passengers too?

Hmmm.. If this is not supposed to be an IR line and if Harsh's second assumption is correct, could this be a photo from the Achalpur - Murtazapur - Uavatmal line?

I am only guessing but would it be one of the 2' gauge 2-8-2 from Mysore iron and Steel at Bhadravati?
It does look more like a B/1 or D/1 from CR.

The shape of the chimney is nothing new but found only on locos that have the "R" suffix. Shakti series locos feature the same. The same can be observed on all Rebuilt GY and GTL locos.
