The 'corbelled' projections at top of piers help in reducing the span for stone slabs. Typically stone slabs were used over 30-60 cm clear openings at top, between the projected stones. The span at bed level, where the water flows can be 1 m or higher, due to this corbelling. Posted by Rajeev Shrivastava on 2006 Apr 20 11:22:50 +0000 |

Lovely light play with that sepia mode! Note how the 'Attention' aspect appears on the signal. Posted by Gautam on 2006 Apr 20 10:05:10 +0000 |

No, Bizzy: the train is southbound. I just walked down the track south from Bhubaneswar Station. I think the ROB may be south of the station. I'm afraid I don't know the area well at all, so I can't really comment on the location: I just stayed in BBS for 2 days in 1984; and overnight in 2000. I was looking for a lake marked on my map: obviously, that was only full in monsoon time, but I had not realised that. Posted by John Lacey on 2006 Apr 19 18:16:33 +0000 |

Great John!! You've a steam pic to every location!! BTW where exactly was it taken? Looks like a bit further from VaniVihar PH towards CTC (and the National Hhighway #5 ROB in the background), right? Posted by Bizzy Mishra on 2006 Apr 19 16:35:49 +0000 |

My last comment seems to have been too long !The lost piece said that I see a wagon still survives. Can I ask anyone who visits Shantipur to get a picture. If it is the same one that was there in 1980 it is very old - built about 1905, I think. Posted by David Churchill on 2006 Apr 19 14:17:39 +0000 |

1Many thanks for the NG pictures. Interesting to compare this with http://www.irfca.org/gallery/Steam/Shantipur-Nabadwip/shant7x.jpg.html. It has not changed a lot since 1980! Also I see a wagon still survives. Can I ask anyone who visits Shantipur to get a picture. If it is the same one that was there in 1980 it is very old - built about 1905, I think. Indian post is replacing old cylindrical post boxes with newer sleek fibre glass ones. These must be scrapped boxes
