If I am not wrong, Matheran has a loop that allows locos to run around and attach at the other end without having to reverse via a parallel track. Once can see the track next to the train ending in a concrete buffer. The train is simply parked on the run around track rather than a specially built platform & track for this arrangement. The 2ft gauge does allow for such curves.
