Stupendous work done by Ramdev, Pawan and company. I too would have like to trek the route , probably with the missed out guys. Posted by Dilip Setlur on 2008 Dec 01 08:39:56 +0000 |

Very nice atmosphere indeed: I especially like the light on top of the bogies and the semaphore signals. Posted by John Lacey on 2008 Dec 01 08:39:33 +0000 |

This is probably one ghat section with the Thickest forest cover simply because of the 55km of length of the ghat section. Posted by Dilip Setlur on 2008 Dec 01 08:36:51 +0000 |

Really great collection of WDP4 pics from Ghatkesar. Using your massive zoom lens, the monstrous SHF WDP4 looks still gigantic. Posted by Arzan Kotval on 2008 Dec 01 08:23:42 +0000 |

Stunning! I agree with Shanx that this is perhaps the best photo to come from Ghatkesar area. What is the EXIF data? Posted by M S M Saifullah on 2008 Dec 01 05:15:49 +0000 |

Dr Mulky you are right! This photo seems to be taken from atop BB&CI Railway Headquarters building (provided it existed at that time) which today houses WR Headquarters. Posted by Karan Desai on 2008 Dec 01 04:49:20 +0000 |

Looks like the bridge in the movie 'The Bridge over the river Kwai'. Posted by Ramdev Gowda on 2008 Nov 30 18:26:10 +0000 |

Note the position of the sea, just to the west side of the Oval Maidan. I guess Churchgate to Colaba must have been something like the Rameswaram causeway. Did outstation trains originate from Colaba, or was it just meant for suburban trains (which must have also been steam hauled in 1910). Posted by Dr.Jitendra Mulky on 2008 Nov 30 16:38:41 +0000 |
Karan, even before Railfans could trek this route, it was a hugely popular trekking route with other "Trekkers" . It was when the MG stopped and no trains ran for a decade.
In a way they had a "green route" through the dense western ghats thanks to IR's P-Way.
