Mumbai - DC to AC Conversion, February 5, 2012

Agree with you Sachin. The WCAM-1s and 2s will be sorely missed. I have mixed feelings regarding these AC locos. After being used to seeing these workhorses (WCAMx) for my entire life, it feels extremely weird to suddenly see the WAPs in Mumbai. Somehow they just don't seem to fit in!

The panto would have taken a very sharp sleeping posture at the Elphinstone Road bridge! Welcome AC in MumbaI.

Kharad , the neutral zone structure on the OHE above the turnouts is similar to the one at Diva and AC-DC locos face no problem in negotiating those turnouts at Diva . I wonder why such restriction is imposed here .

If I am correct, these turnouts are used very rarely. In case of any need, or in case of any emergent situation, we can always go back to diesel locos !

Rightly put in, this will surely be missed by all, thank you for sharing this pic.

Well everyone is gung-ho about WAPx entering Mumbai. But sadly we have to bid adieu over a short period of time to the most complex electric loco ever made..the WCAM-1 :-(

Always wanted to see this comparison! IR's longest BG electric loco, WCAM-1 and shortest one WAP-5 in single frame.. :)

Thanks for the photograph, Akshay.

I've seen boards stating "Unwired Turnouts". But does this one imply that the OHE over points 103, 104 is not charged, and probably serves as a "unusable" Neutral Section due to the restricted speed over them resulting in a probable stalling??

True, the old need not always give in to the new. Both can co-exist together, as the WCAM-1s still have some life left in them.
