I am afraid I am not so sure about this layout. The Speedometer should have been right in front in place of the brake gauge. Also, the notch handle is at an angle, which would make it awkward for the LP to operate. One good thing about this layout is the microprocessor LCD readout of key engine parameters are at lease right in front for the LP to consult, instead of it being in the back panel on all locos I have seen.

Southern Railway: Coach & Diesel Loco Beauty Contest

Poochi and Gang, Excellent eye for detail in capturing all the key components and innovations in the cabs. Felt like I attended the contest in person. Thanks!

Southern Railway: Coach & Diesel Loco Beauty Contest

@ Akshay: I strongly believe this kind of competition amongst sheds is to bringout new ideas, concepts, and to encourage them to showcase their stuff. This raises the adrenaline rush amongst the sheds to look for new innovation to showcase in their contestants. Whether it is implemented or not in long run is not the question now... this is purely to raise a sense of game/competition amongst the sheds.

Southern Railway: Coach & Diesel Loco Beauty Contest

The concerned sheds and workshops have no doubt done a good job. But frankly, of what use are these beauty contests? Are the improvements showcased in these contests ever implemented in other locos & coaches? Forget about others. Are the facilities on these locos and coaches going to be maintained well? For example, for how long will the windscreen washer be functional? Will it be ensured that there is enough water in the reservoir at all times?

Auto-cutoff: when water level reaches the Danger-mark, there will be an audible warning, the prime-mover will be shut down and the loco will come to a stop.

Its about time this comes as a standard feature on all our locomotives. Will be better if they can include a heater too.
