The same chain drive can be seen at http://tinyurl.com/n8cpv

I have seen these Rail-Motor cars when I visited Matheran as kid. We could not afford to travel in it, then.

Today, I can afford it but... they are gone forever!

Lack of ratchet type master controller, absence of seat, etc. lead me to believe it's just an outer shell for decorative purpose. So WDM1 has good company.

Same at Nehru Science Center.

I doubt if they have any WCP2 or WCG1 is restorable condition.

To see a restored, working steam loco from Neral Matheran Railway, I have to visit British Isles.

Sad, very sad, indeed!

So sad the loco is goddily painted. Would love to see it in the regular livery. And I never think any NMR loco has "Nee-Maa-Re" on it's sides!

The 'strange belt drive' is a chain drive from the original rear axle of the truck chassis on which it is based to the new rail rear wheels.

It is good to see that this historic vehicle has been repainted and is now somewhat better cared for. When I saw it in Feb 2006 it was rapidly deteriorating with door and bonnet hanging open, rotting woodwork etc.

It is significant as a very early example of a petrol engined passenger vehicle. Wouldn't it be marvellous if it could be put back into operation. I,for one, would happily pay a premium fare to ride it.

NRM Revisited

WOW!!! The color of NRM has completely changed. When I visited last April, all the locos lost their beauty & now every loco has been repainted. http://sr-amesh.fotopic.net/c953270.html

The locomotive is YB 429.

I am soory about that earlier coment. This loco runs on the Matheran route and so does not need a pinion or rack.
