Thanks for uploading this, Jimmy. Brings back fond memories of my stay in Karaikkal back in 1973. My uncle's house was walking distance from Karaikovilpathu station. I would often watch a three-coach MG train pull into the station headed by a YP. Thirunalaru has a famous Murugan temple. I remember taking a passenger train till Mayuram (now Mayiladuturai).

Thanks for sharing these treasures. Could you scan the schedules for Mayavaram - Peralam - Karaikkal section? I traveled on this line way back in 1973.

Appu, I am very sure that that is a part of the old NG permanent way. Some more of small embankments can be found in Krishnagiri (of Tirupattur-Krishnagiri line). I hope the Bangalore gang will go to Hosur and Krishnagiri one day and dig up the remains in the same way as the Pune gang did on the Miraj line. I had tried my level best years back. All I could find is that most of the furniture in Govt. offices are made of unearthed sleepers of this line!!

Very informative photo essay on the sad state of affairs at CHTS. Hope, once the new bridge to the mainland gets ready, CHTS gets back some of its lost glory. Circa 1999, it was a busy yard. Good work Jimmy!!

Tearful I can say...never went here but remember seeing the Gorakhpur-Cochin exp (now 2511 Raptisagar) which started in late 80s and name Cochin was made famous among railway folks in LKO. Also took this train twice once for JTJ and once for CBE before it was extended to TVC. Anyway Jimmy a very good effort and also a nice treat.

Something wrong here-the Frontier Mail would not pass Chalisgaon as it always used the WR route rather than CR.(Verified from 1944 Bradshaw).
