Nevermind my comment about the similarities - the next photo explains it. The two locos are identical, but not symmetric. The side louver arrangement and the little glass windows match on the other side. One side has more windows than the other!

The two locos look slightly different - the side louver arrangement and the little glass windows on the sides are different. There seem to be 4 windows on the first one and 4 small and 2 big side windows on the second. Also there is a single MU cable – rules out MU with the CLW/BHEL locos.

Which Shatabdi is this loco used for? Please try to get a photograph of it; I would love to see a picture of a Shatabdi hauled by a Shatabdi-liveried loco (and will keep my fingers crossed that the rake doesn't have Rajdhani EOGs!)

Must be to operate the sanders that spray sand from the sandbox on the tracks so that the wheels can "bite" and get better grip. Locos use sand to make their smooth metal wheels get a grip on the smooth metal track.

is it some kind of system to keep him awake and attentive???? And what is the 'sanding' switch??

Maybe because it was getting detached from the rake soon. Within few minutes, the loco got rid of the train and a WDG 2 took over. The conditions were too perfect for this foto. right lighting, angle etc. Surely, one of the best I took.

It seems like the caternary height is very low w.r.t the loco. The pantograph is not raised much.
