NWR-1930 map

Note that the original owner in the 1930s has scribbled some numbers (probably dates of his travels) in various places such as Karachi and Rohri.

Table 7 - NR - 1977TT

171/172 did not allow passengers betwen BCT and NDLS in those days. From BCT, the shortest point allowed was Ambala Jn!

My thoughts, exactly! The 171/172 was an absolute class train - schedule, halt pattern, livery, prestige - it had all!

Table 1 - NER - 1977TT (Part 1)

have travelled MG Vaishali from Siliguri to Lucknow Jn in summer of 1979. Took 2 nights and one day to cover the distance. The onward journey was Avadh Tirhout Mail (AT Mail) listed here. Thanks Mani, it is a memorable TT for me.

Such contempt for NDLS by 172 Up.

12 minute halt at such an unearthly hour that even the porters would be asleep!

On the "tourist spots" pages inside the book, the falls are shown with a snake in the foreground, next to the Saputara writeup. Saputara is a small hill station on the Gujarat - Maharashtra border, accessible both from Bilimora and Nasik. Does anyone who has visited here know about any falls in the vicinity?

@Trayambak: This is not "WR" Time Table. It is "Western Zone" Time Table which includes WR, CR, NWR and WCR, so there is nothing wrong in showing a CR train on the cover.

And the biggest heist is the cover pic. WCAM3 are CR locos and the train it is hauling is the HWH-CSTM Duronto another CR train.
