Our first focus was Gangavali river, flowing north of Gokarna Road (GOK) station. We arrived on the south bank, but to use the best light of the day, had to reach the opposite side. This involved crossing the waters in a canoe meant for 3 people, of which two were IRFCA members... Once on the other side, finding a good vantage points meant avoiding the steep river bank that led directly into deep waters and the overhanging flora. Luckily we found this location - a flexing 'jetty' made from a few concrete electric poles - laid sideways. The train is Ernakulam - Pune 11098 Purna Express heading north towards Madgaon. Aerial view - note the ferry crossing point on south bank and slender 'jetty' overhanging the water on the north bank. The jetty is part of a fish processing plant that was boiling massive amount of prawns on giant vessels with open fire. 29th May 2012.
