The Omega Loop
Images from a visit to the Omega Loop near Gwalior
As we move to our next location, an Izzatnagar based WDM3D roars past an LC with BOST rake
The New Delhi bound Jhelum Express surprisingly gets a WAP1 as it enters the rock cutting leading into the Sandalpur tunnel
The 335m long Sandalpur tunnel is actually a 'built-in' tunnel. In 1971 the 20 metre deep cutting near Sandalpur station became extremely unstable during the doubling of this section. This tunnel had to be provided in the unstable length.
The Firozpur bound Punjab Mail curves around the village of Antri. The Down line to Jhansi which is the original alignment lies on the far side of the village.
The loco of the Punjab Mail exiting the Sandalpur tunnel like the bullet out of a rifle.
We catch the Taj Express again as it heads home to Nizamuddin, headed by the white beast named Navgati.
The Taj entering the rock cutting leading up to the tunnel. The white path along the tracks leads up and across the tunnel
