the now extinct YAM-1 series of Metre Gauge Electric Locomotives.
Behind the driver are many switches neatly packed inside this glass almirah type door. I have not seen such a door in an AC loco
Things that you would do on a regular footplate, view complete with OHE mast
Another view a railfan will take when footplating. The guy in the backgound is an employee of the scrap dealer
YAM 1 21913 up close. This loco is to be broken down shortly. Scrap dealers who had waited for the rains to get over had come today to study it. One of them broke the window.
Shattered dreams.... The YAM 1's had an unusually long panto.
Inside the cab of 21913. These locos had a very nice console. This is the drivers side. Compare this with the BG AC loco console. This is very neat
This is the assistant drivers side
This is how the driver saw the world in front of him. Sitting in his seat
Where else could you find such nicely drafted instructions to the driver?? During the time YAM 1's were operational, they were called drivers and not loco pilots!
The two remaining YAM 1's at Tambaram, 21913 in the front and 21922 behind lie forgotten in a corner of the Tambaram Shed, which was their home for many years
This picture will give you an idea of the neglect these locos face. This is the scene to the left as you enter the Tambaram Railway station
