Ballast weights provided in a WAG9 based at Lallaguda. This is placed just behind the cab and there is a smaller weight on the opposite side of the corridor too and an identical set is provided behind the other cab.The weights look rather crude compared to the otherwise well-finished loco and seem to have been added by LGD shed rather than CLW.Are these addional weights provided in all WAG9 locos or is it an experiment to improve adhesion? Such weights are absent in the WAP7.

Thats the Traction Motor cooling blower. It takes its air feed directly from the body-side panel and hence there is no air draft through the machine room(unlike in the conventional tap-changer locos). The smaller blower in the rear is the scavenge blower to the Traction Motor cooling blower intake filter. The scavenge blower removes the clogged dirt from the intake filter.
