YDM-4 #6310 prepares to start with the last ever trip of train #744, from Punalur. The passenger rush on this train was so high, that many people (me included) had to return dejected. A couple of media persons said that there were passengers even on top of the coaches the previous evening. Curtains have been drawn on the 110-year old line. ()

Nice picture, and sad to see another lovely MG line go. But just look at all that trash - goes to show that high levels of literacy & education need not lead to greater civic sense!

I traveled in the route which was my first trip and enjoyed its final run. The loco was 6401. I traveled on 19th afternoon.

We can all thank the great Jaffer Sharieff for mass-launching the unigauge program and robbing us MG lovers of great sections one-by-one.

There must have been similar rush at Punalur on the inauguration of this line, on 4 July 1904. The first train ran from Quilon to Punalur only

End of an era. Everything in this pic is nostalgic. Look at the single headlamp on YDM 4
