The metal ladder in the middle of the platform which is used by the SM's office to visually confirm that the signals are given as required. This is used in the event of a train already standing on the platform and blocking a visual sighting from the platform. The other type (masonry type) of 'stairs/ladder going nowhere' is shown here in the Ambale station pics shot during the Shindavane trek. All the stations on a curve have this stairs/ladder.
