@Sriram....if that were the case then they'd have to inform each and every station about each and every freight train's length. Don't think railways have automated means of doing that as yet.

Passenger trains have no option but to wait in a loopline if the freight rake is too long to fit in a small loopline... but not very sure if this is the exact reason.

look at the difference in cleanliness....while the KZJ looks so fresh pune's looks like another Gazi loco.and do a passenger train waits for a goods to cover it??
