Alstom Prima T8 twin-section (Bo-Bo+Bo-Bo) 9000 kW/12000 hp locomotive for the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor
Three phase IGBT AC traction with a top speed of 120 km/h, ABB transformers and Knorr-Bremse braking system with regenerative capability. Designed to haul 6000 tonnes at 100 km/h and a starting TE of 785 kN (176,000 lbf).
Built at Alstom's Madhepura Electric Locomotive Factory, Bihar. Deliveries of the locomotives are planned from 2018 through to 2028, with the first locomotive entering service in April 2018, and a total of five by 2019 (initially imported, then ramping up to 85-90% Indian made components). This is to be followed by the assembly of 35 new locomotives in 2020, 60 in 2021, and 100 locomotives each year from 2022 until all 800 locomotives are delivered. |

WAG-9HC |
Electric |
WAG-9 HC is Higher Axle Load with Conventional Brake Rigging. The conventional brake rigging is cheaper and easier to maintain, weighs less. This conventional brake rigging system, after application of brakes, the axle set and wheel dismantling will not happen. Also, the magnitude of Braking Force can be obtained from the DDU (Driver Display Unit) with this system in place. |
