The freight train to my right provides relief from the bright sun as I take cover to shoot the 2627 Bangalore-New Delhi Karnataka Express crossing my train - the 6009 Mumbai Chennai Mail south of Solapur in Maharashtra. Its being handled by a KJM WDM/2 pair, uncommon as this train is almost always Itarsi WDM/2 hauled.

Sleeper class travel is awesome for trainspotting, but cruel summers can unnerve even the most tolerant traveller. The bright May sun seems to offer no respite to 6010 Chennai Mumbai Mail, as it gets crossed by the 1013 Kurla-Coimbatore Express at Marichetal in AP.

This picture would serve as a life-before-concrete example for Bangalore. A light KJM WDM/2 negotiates the sharp curve from Channasandra, to merge into the Chennai-Bangalore trunk line. The location in this photograph now stands below a complex flyover that takes the ring-road over the tracks, on to the Old Madras Road near HAL.

Two KJM WDM/2 locomotives reflect the bright evening sun in Bangalore City station. They've brought in the 2628 Karnataka Express from New Delhi to Bangalore, and earn their well-deserved time out from work. Locomotives from ET usually handle this assignment.

The driver of this KJM WDM/2 locomotive lets out his flag to acknowledge his mate on the 6010 Chennai Mumbai mail. A very small consist of box wagons is being towed behind, north of Raichur in Karnataka. This undulating barren landscape is characteristic of the Deccan plateau.
