This is the standard heavy shunter of the Indian Railways, the
WDS6. The WDS6 has a WDM2 frame with a 1200 HP inline 6 cylinder
engine and the electric transmission of a YDM4. Lack of dynamic
brakes permit the low short hood. Here is a Pune shed WDS6 pulling
two TK tank wagons and pushing a brake van. |
|
After decoupling the TK wagons, the brake van gets pushed away.
The crew members relax on the platform of the brake van during
their lunch break. |
|
Another view of the loco. The weight of the loco is increased
by adding blocks of steel over the bogies to compensate for the
lighter power pack. |
|
The brake van gets pushed to a waiting WDS4 diesel hydraulic
shunter. |
