A query: In case of failures of the main loco (like in this cae) for shatabdi's or Rajdhani's and freight locomotives are put in as a replacement, who pilot the train? The A grade LP/LP or the C grade freight LP/ALP?

Can these MUed locos do 150 Kmph ??

No sir. They will be restricted to 100 km/h or at the most 105 km/h.

No need for two locos to be powered for that load, right!!!

@Mr Krupa Ratnam : The two locos must have been detached from a freight train and given the charge of Shatabdi on emergency basis. But what I can't figure out is where is the failed WAP-5? Generally, it is not the priority to remove a failed loco from the train, and the relief loco is attached in front of the dead loco. This is surely a mystery.

@Siddhartha - In case of an incident like a Cattle Run Over, the brake pipes of the original loco may have been damaged. Or the loco might have had some other braking related issues, rendering it unfit to be a part of the consist. Hence it may have been removed.

@Sid, probably the A Grade LP/LP will assist the freight crew in the working. More importantly, what about the BPL-NDLS run?? Did it get back a WAP5 or did these twins haul it back??

@Kharad: Imagine A-grade LP yelling at fright crew to hit 150! (Mod's please allow).

Kharad- That day it was BRC WAP-4 to rescue- You can see more on this here-forum.irfca.org/showthread.php/18679-12002-Bhopal-Shatabdi-came-4-hours-late-with-TKD-WAG-5A-twins!
Sid- The incharge of the freight loco would be it's original LP. The Class A LP would be as assistance and would travel till the next crew change point

@Krupa Sir - I love your sense of humour, but I'm sure the A Grade LP's would have knowledge about the MPS of the relief powers :)

amazing.. WAG are good for Shtabdi too..
what was the max speed touched that day,,any idea ???

Hi Abhishek, WAG-5 can do 105kph max. I really wonder how twin WAG5 of 7800hp strength must have accelerated with 14 lhb coach load.

Nice snap. But in any case, the senior Lp's who were driving the train will take charge of the relief loco's also and will maintain the MPS of the train/section/loco which ever is the lowest. no chance of yelling at a freight LP to run at 150 here. Maybe, the freight LP who had brought the relief loco, must have taken charge of WAP5/7 if that loco is able to move, or otherwise act according to the instructions given to them. There are very few occassions when the relief loco LP taking charge of the train itself.
