cool stuff! would the DGs still be single cab as they usually MUed?

Amazing! this is exactly what i have been waiting to see in the next gen WDP4.
Looking forward to see it in action!

Fantastic job by DLW! With this, all shortcomings of the 1st generation WDP-4 have been addressed.

great...am waiting for this....

This is surely gonna bring GREAT relief to LP/ALP when rolled onto MainLine! Has the heat exhaust issue on LHF side being addressed?

Posted by Kunal Doddanavar on 2010 Aug 17 03:16:57 +0000

It must be lengthier to accommodate cab. Isn't it.

Posted by Krupa Ratnam on 2010 Aug 17 03:23:49 +0000

Wow. thats fantastic man !!!! And I know for sure, that this is not an April Fools Joke, but a reality... I am very happy for the LPs and ALPs, who would be otherwise relieved from the difficulty of driving LHF on EMD locos.

Wow- what a nice looking diesel.....errrr did i just say this.... :D

The radiator seems to have been shortened to accommodate another cab. I am certain RDSO and DLW cannot have made structural changes in so short a period. If everything is the same, including the weight, the loco will not need to undergo fresh proving trials. Lets hope the cab won't get too hot ;-)

Posted by Alok Patel on 2010 Aug 17 09:29:12 +0000

The cab is shorter in length, Naturally as it needs to have only one control stand. So DBR, Engine itself and radiator have moved towards that cab clearing space for second cab on radiator side.
As slope in front is reduced Drivers are closer to windshield too.

Drivers being closer to the windshield is not a great thing as far as impact dynamics is concerned-Though DLW may have fitted additional impact structures to the forward area in order to compensate. Great achievement by DLW though.

am wondering how long this one could be when compared to another normal EMD loco...

Posted by Deepak Murali on 2010 Aug 17 15:35:08 +0000

The middle of the radiator now lines up with the middle of the bogie, a good 1.5 metres difference? I don't think conjuring up that sort of distance by simply moving everything back a bit is very likely - it must be longer than the single cab model. Compare the number of handrail stanchions between the sandboxes it has (7.5) with this photo of a WDG4 (5.5): http://www.irfca.org/gallery/Locos/Diesel/wdg4_wdp4/DSCN6747_001.jpg.html
Wonder how hot No.2 cab will get...?

Posted by Dan Cross on 2010 Aug 17 16:19:47 +0000

It really looks cool. WDP4/WDG4 class of locos are the best looking locos IR has got till date. Good to know that's it's upgraded to 500hp more. I would love to see this loco hauling up and down Bdts Dee Sarai Rohilla Garibrath express.

If looks could kill...
Really handsome looking loco. I hope for LP/ALP sake designers have given some thought to ergonomics inside cabs.

Really hope the radiator-cab issues have been addressed. The beast has lost the macho look, I daresay :P

Idea good... but dippy lost its royal long hood get up...
