Breakers is really a rare one! Something worth a watch of WCG 2 before the conversion is expected next Sunday (17th) as per sources from LNL.

It should be breakers or brakers?

The correct word should be 'brakers' - these locos help to 'brake' the heavy trains and not 'break' them into pieces. Excellent photograph.

Wonderful! WCG-2's working as brakers too on passenger trains before retirement. Nice photo! :-)

Actually, the correct terminology would be "Pilot's". Assisting Loco's ahead of the main power would be a pilot, the same at the other end would be "Banker's. In this perticular situation the term "Braker's" would also be appropriate

A rare scene indeed, good catch, Chaitanya.

I guess the same rule of heavy rake's (18 or more Coaches)would be accompanied by Pilot's applies here as in the Thull.

@Jainand: The threshold for passenger trains is 21 coaches, not 18. Bhor Ghat didn't see any 21+ coach passenger trains and hence no brakers were employed, but on this particular day, 1014 came up with 22 coaches, and hence this need.

And the limit of bogies allowed in the Thull ghats is also not 18 coaches but is 23 coaches. 23 coach trains do not need brakers down the ghats. It is hauled by single WCAM-3 down the ghats quiet comfortably.
