Many thanks, I remember when we were kids, mom used to stuff blankets, bedsheets, pillows and what not for the five member trip. At that time the berths used to be wooden that too gaps between the adjacent wooden planks. some people use to just open the holdall and make it a nice bed.

Amazing that you still have the holdall. I think we threw out ours long ago.

Hey - This looks exactly like the holdall and suitcase that I used in my college days from 1967 to 1972 !! Except that I did not have my name stenciled on the holdall !!

Thanks a lot Shirish! This along with Poori Aloo bhaji is perhaps an inseparable part of childhood memories associated with Railways.

Yes, Hold-alls, plastic water bottles, huge leather suitcases, reservation-charts on type-written sheets of papers - all memories of a bygone era that I will cherish for sure.

Brings back so many memories! Am I correct in assuming that the hold-all was used only for train travel?

Thanks a lot. Brings back old memories!! Of the golden era of travel!! Some older holdalls had provision for keeping water bottles on the outside.

It's amazing that you and your family have preserved this and other travel accessories till date. These are museum pieces worth preserving.
