On the extreme right side, one can see the old Metre Gauge Tracks which connected to Miraj and thence to Bangalore via Hubli.

I could not comment on the other photograph which David referred to (http://www.irfca.org/gallery/Heritage/pune10.jpg.html) so I am putting up the answer here.

The layout of Pune when it had Metre Gauge connection was that the Metre Gauge tracks were on the Eastern Side while Broad Gauge were on the West.

So this picture (as also the other pic) was taken facing Northwards.

For Uttam - a correction regarding directions. This is the view facing Mumbai, which is to the west. The MG lines are on right which is to the North.
