Looks like a Scharfenberg coupler.

I zoomed up the high res image and the coupler reads "Schaku" which is most likely the name of the German manufacturer. All I know about a Scharfenberg coupler is that it helps in automatic coupling.

The technology used in this kind of Couplers is one of the best foolproof technology.

The Scharfenberg coupler was developed some time just after World War II in Germany. The idea of it is that you can couple two units physically and electrically through one coupling (instead of a usual coupler and cables). Also, this can be done automatically and within seconds - one vehicle must simply slowly approach another until their couplers meet.
