what is that structure before the bridge? is that a gate kind of thing that is normally there in some of the older road bridges?

It is entrance of the bridge, very elegantly build and looks like a part of some fort from near. On the top is written Ghaghra in Hindi in big bold letters. Due to monstrous nature of this river, all the bridges on this have been difficult.

Britishers built the bridge when with MG tracks, later in around late 70s, the bridge got converted to BG. At this particular place actually before the bridge, I have heard that you can find traces of MG at some places as the alignment was slightly different. Apart from this there are some traces of MG near Basti.
