Which place is this?

The train is entering Miraj from Kolhapur. The line converging from left is Hubli - Miraj line. The hutments like structures on right side are staff quarters. The pic is taken from ROB.

Very nice. Is the line which the Koyna is joining on to the one heading to Hubli??

No, Harsh, The Loco is facing Pune, the line to the left is the
Banglore-Hubli-Miraj-Pune main line, the train is joining the main line from the Kohlapur branch line at Miraj. hope this helps.

Thanks for the pic Satish. Brings back memories from the late 70s up to the mid 80s when I used to have my face pasted to the coach window (after a fight to claim the window seat) to catch the train taking this sharp to go to Kolhapur. Those were the days when the Mahalaxmi, Sahyadri etc used to get WPs, WGs from Miraj for the run to Kolhapur.
Only the Maharashtra used to get a WDM all the way while the Koyna used to terminate at Miraj itself. It was only later that it was extended to KOP.

One of the most amazing photos on the server! Everything else seems so tiny in front of the giant WDP-4!

Somehow I am loving the long hood of WDP-4 from this angle. Excellent Picture!!

Until 1994, Miraj used to have all 3 gauges and 2 zones:
1. NG: Miraj -Kurduvadi under CR.
2. MG: Miraj-Hubli under SCR.
3. BG: Miraj-Pune and Miraj-Kolhapur both under SCR.
Post May,2003, entire Miraj Jn is in CR and only NG and BG exist.

Great snap. The LHF of WDP4 looks awesome from this angle. Like the location too.
