The Biligirangan Hills (or BR Hills as Anamitra has mentioned), together with the Male Mahadeshwar Hills and the Nilgiris are supposed to be the spot where the Western and Eastern Ghats meet.

Is there any need for the 2nd and 3rd platforms at present, given the less number of trains coming here? Or is this a preplanned move, anticipating the heavy traffic on this line if and when the line to Satyamangalam and Mettupalaiyam is completed?

Nice set of pictures! I remember taking this route in 2003 for B.R. Hills. A green YDM-4 of Golden Rock was in charge.
