A fascinating example of old and new gauges side by side. This is rarely seen on IR as the old station buildings soon vanish. A few abandoned stations in ruins can be seen between Villipuram and Puducherry.

Gidnahalli-One of the first stations on the way23

This used to be an NG station. Any trace of the old station and buildings?

Sigh, such an ugly looking structure. Do the people who design station structures these days even have a basic degree in architecture? Agreed it is the age of cost savings and everything, but how expensive could it be to think of a decently good looking design for station structures?

@Srini - Yes, we did drive along the allignment at a few stretches near Gidnahalli and Chintamani. The distance from where the car is parked in the pic and where the station is located is around 2 km. However halfway there is a massive "hump" around half a meter in height which can only be negotiated by a SUV/MUV/other heavy transport vehicles. Hence we returned back and chose to walk the distance.

The three musketeers from BLR have done a wonderful rail fanning trip to a territory which must have seen the lovely small NG locos and trains in the past and which will see the BG beasts and trains soon. Thanks for sharing the photos and the trip report.

This station building looks exactly like the one that I saw being constructed at one of the stations between Pakala and Madanapalle.

Hey - Did you guys drive in the parked car on the alignment that will some day become the permanent way for the BG line ? If yes, you folks have done what no other IRFCA member has ever done so far !!

I was informed by the Deputy Chief Engineer (Construction) of SWR that they have now received orders that all LC's should be changed to ROB or RUB and then only the new BG line will be made operational. Let us see if this is done or if we finally end up with LC's.
