Pardon my ignorance, did the MG alignment not have equivalent stations of today's IRFCA favorite spots - Shindawane and Ambale?

So, from that era itself "Sanvordem (Curchorem)" was christened in this peculiar fashion! I thought it might have been the handiwork of some recent neta-log who love playing with names!

The word Standard was used instead of Broad in those days. Can you scan the Coimbatore - podanur - Pollachi - Dindigul MG line timetable to see, if this particular table shown here includes ALL trains (BG & MG) between Coimbatore and Podanur.

Different timings on weekdays and Sundays. In later timetables (1970s), Lanka Railways had different timings on Poya (full moon days). I wonder how long it will take for trains to be restored on all lines in the north and east after cessation of hostilities.

Since Karaikal was French territory, there must have been some station en route where border formalities were completed, similar to Castle Rock and Chinnababusamudram. Jimmy, I think the line closed down much later as I remember seeing in the TTs of the 70s. Today, it is being converted to BG with an extension to Nagore and Nagapattinam.

Arantangi is very much there on the still MG section of Thiruvarur - Tiruthuraipundi - Karaikkudi. It is 27 km from Karaikkudi and 6861/ 6862 Thiruthuraipundi - Karaikkudi Express has a halt here. This was the route taken by the Chennai - Rameswaram MG trains after Mayiladuthurai - Kumbakonam - Thanjavur - Tiruchhirapalli was converted to BG.

There was an elaborate system of NG lines in this area connecting Tarikere, Narasimharajapuram, Kemmanugundi, Bhadravati and Mandagadde. This must have been the southern counterpart of the Gaekwar's State railway centered around Dabhoi. Any one knows some more history about these lines?
