These are track relaying equipment. (PQRS portals). These can swivel to straddle the flat wagon and then move on auxiliary track, laid at a wider gauge, enveloping the track on which the flat wagon is standing.

This crane can travel on and off rails. It forms part of the paraphernalia of point and crossing relaying unit (T-28) and is used to collect/ move sleepers and heavy parts of the points/ crossings etc., for assembling the layout which is inserted in track by the T-28 portal cranes, in traffic block.

The arm does not terminate in a hoe actually. It ends in a straight metal (hollow) box type section to which chains are attached, with hooked ends. The arm simply loads/ unloads rails, sleepers etc., using these chains.

This is one of the initial UTVs. Although the tyred truck has the capability to roll down the flat car and work around the tracks, yet this function is mostly not used due to operational constraints. The truck remains propped on the flat car (immobilized) and works like a fixed crane. The laetr UTVs have been procured with a fixed crane.
