why did they spend money to convert it to second class, they could have kept it as it is and charged second class fare for it. Funny ways!!

The middle track and the one currently taken by the train are by default aligned to the catch sidings (lines going up gradient) and every Mumbai bound train has a mandatory brake testing halt here. After successful stoppage only the track is aligned to mainline and train is allowed to proceed down the ghats - Amruta Bhate.
