7789 was amongst a batch of 8 prototype locomotives built by Vulcan Foundry in 1955. Four went to Northern railway and were based at Firozpur and the other four went to Southern railway and were based at Shoranur. Thanks for appreciating!

Beauty...I think the loco maintenance standards used to be lot better back in olden days. I still have vivid memories of immaculate WPs with boxpok wheels & WGs at Kolhapur when steam was only used between Kolhapur & Miraj. My favorites WG (10097?)with Giesel Injector and 8076WG on Mahalaxmi express.

I wish I was born during the 1950s with a camera to capture these beasts in action.

Steam Crane at NDB-1

Rare catch - thanks for sharing. Was this a self-propelled affair?

Steam Crane at NDB-1

i think this magnificent piece of machinery could be restored by NRM. hope this subject can be introduced to the director of NRM during NRM 2010.

Hinged Buffer mounting plate

Swinging the buffer out of the way would allow the crane to come closer to the object being lifted. Even a few critical inches could make a significant difference to the amount of load lifted by the crane.
