Airavat is generic name for all KSTRC Volvos (not only for Mysore - Bangalore ones). IMHO, Airavat must be a Sanskrit word. About naming this particular loco, may be because of the colour, the elephant was white (unique, normally elephants are black), this WAP4E is LHB liveried (unique??, normally WAP4s are red) - Amruta Bhate.

Lovely photograph! Somehow very serene despite the presence of catenary and the rushing train.

Right on! WAP-4 is a beauty, somehow IMHO the Great Whites are no match, looks wise, for the Reds! Very very elegant, gives us the impression of being a graceful beast!

Superb photograph. Nothing, not even the WAP5/7 can match the elegance of a WAP4...also, surprised to see so much greenery in Chennai in Summer!

BTW what does Airavat means. Mysore-Bangalore KSRTC Volvo buses are also named Airavat. Some locals told me that Airavat is a Kannada word and in actual "Airavata."
